Founded in 1996, Norwegian based company, Renewable Energy Corporation (REC) has quickly become one of the world’s leading solar energy businesses. The recent opening of the world’s most extensive integrated solar production in Tuas marked the largest single investment ever made by REC in Singapore at S$2.5 billion. The manufacturing complex will incorporate wafer, cell and module production facilities, with a production capacity of up to 1.5 gigawatts.

Because of its location, supportive government and efficient seaport, Singapore was chosen to undertake this massive facility that sprawls across 321,000m2  of floor area. This large scale project required immense resources and raw materials which included approximately 49,500m3 of concrete, 4000 tons of steel, 29,200m of pipes and 5000 workers during its construction peak among others.

Advocating environmental consciousness and sustainability, the facility has incorporated an array of impressive environment features. One of which being the use of ROCKWOOL HardRock 80 in the roof construction together with the garden roofs to ensure the building is kept cool throughout the day. Because of our products stable dimension, it will not result in expansion or contraction in the event of temperature variances which contributes to optimal thermal performance of a building envelope. As such, it would be less dependent
on air-conditioning and substantially reduce the use of electricity. The plant has since obtained the 'Gold Green Mark' award from Singapore Building and Construction Authority (BCA), indicating that it has met the criteria for energy efficiency, water efficiency, project development and management, good indoor environmental quality and environmental protection as well as innovation. ROCKWOOL is honored to have contributed towards REC's green initiative and associate ourselves with an iconic project of this magnitude.
