The challenge
The venue was built to stage small-to-medium live music and sporting events, such as handball, fencing, basketball and wheelchair rugby, as well as community sports and athlete training. Meeting the acoustic rating was vital to optimise the audience experience and to ensure that the bass frequencies and crowd noises don't disturb residents living just 700 metres away.

ROCKWOOL solution
The ROCKWOOL Dual Density flat roofing insulation system was chosen for its exceptional acoustic performance - and the technical support available. Just one single layer of Dual Density roofing boards combined with ROCKWOOL Acoustic Membrane and Infill provided the ideal solution. The Acoustic Membrane is a flexible, high-density polymer mass layer.  Acoustic Infill consists of trapezoidal shaped tissue faced insulation for superior fit.

ROCKWOOL technical experts worked with IRC Carocelle and independent assessor, Sound Research Laboratories Limited, to test the acoustic properties of the solution. As well as assessing the combined effectiveness, the dynamic range was tested for impact when energy efficient sunpipe lighting tubes were placed in the roof. The tests proved the achieved rating was 47 dB with the sunpipes and 49 dB without.

• Excellent acoustic and thermal performance
• Protects local residents from noise disturbance
• Non-combustible
• Energy efficient
• Environmentally friendly
• Recycling scheme for off cuts and waste

"We needed roofing insulation that provides exceptional acoustic performance and ROCKWOOL technical expertise and products ensured that we confidently fulfilled this brief. Dual Density roofing boards and Acoustic Membrane and Infill are unique as they not only exceeded our sound requirements but offer additional fire protection, sustainability and thermal benefits as well".
