The challenge
The Walsall development comprises 350 buildings including
semi-detached, terraced and large multi-dwelling domestic
properties. External wall insulation was required to improve energy
efficiency in combination with other measures such as boiler
replacements, heating controls and loft insulation.
ROCKWOOL solution
ROCKWOOL provided a choice of external wall insulation
solutions which were both sympathetic to the current building
facades and met the residents' desire for a new community
aesthetic. ROCKWOOL EcoRock® is a coated render in
various colours; ROCKWOOL DASHSHIELD has a pebbledash external
appearance. Freedom to choose gave residents the chance to opt for
an external façade that best suited their taste.
ROCKWOOL also provided expert energy efficiency advice throughout
the project development and implementation. This involved U-Value
calculations, regular on-site technical support, and product
installation by ROCKWOOL approved installers.
Benefits
• An attractive exterior façade improves the look of
buildings
• Residents could see substantial reductions in energy bills
• Superior fire resistance
• Excellent acoustic performance
• A durable solution for the lifetime of the buildings
CESP targets households across Great Britain, in areas of low
income, to improve energy efficiency standards, and reduce fuel
bills. There are 4,500 areas eligible for CESP. CESP is funded by
an obligation on energy suppliers and electricity generators. It is
expected to deliver up to £350m of efficiency measures.
Fact file
• 350 residential buildings (social housing stock)
• First scheme in the Community Energy Savings Programme
(CESP)
• Entire project expected to save 140,000 tonnes of carbon
emissions
