Interserve Industrial Services

The challenge
In order to meet the highest standards, Pembroke Power Station must demonstrate that it has effective measures in place to reduce any risk and comply with Pollution Prevention Control (PPC) regulations.

The challenge for Interserve Industrial Services was to insulate the high-pressure steam system, which consists of 99% pipework and 1% flash vessels. The contractor also had to ensure people were protected as the pipework can reach temperatures of up to 350ºC.


ROCKWOOL solution
200 tonnes of ROCKWOOL products have been used on this project. Process Pipe Sections and Wired Mat provide effective and robust thermal insulation.

ROCKWOOL technical specialists analysed the existing pipe temperatures, and carried out all of the necessary calculations to achieve the desired temperatures. The pipework was then wrapped in the pipe sections and matting; the result was that the surface temperature was reduced to around 55ºC.

The need to insulate pipework with such high temperatures comes with an obvious fire risk - however ROCKWOOL products are fire resistant up to 1000ºC. The acoustic properties of ROCKWOOL Process Pipe Sections also significantly reduce industrial noise levels.
